Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace: Strengthening Export Opportunities in the Swedish Food and Beverage Market
“A meeting in November 2024 at the Food Exhibition in Stockholm, where food and beverages from producers of the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMTH) will be presented, and four cooperation agreements with food trading and distribution companies in the Swedish market are the first results of the EMTH initiative to strengthen its exports to European markets,” noted the Director of Agricultural Development of EMTH, Sotiris Papadopoulos, at the closing of the two-day event held in Kavala on June 2 and 3, at a central hotel in Kavala, as part of the initiative “TRAVEL TO GREECE – Professional Mission to Kavala.”
During the two-day meeting, eight representatives of Swedish companies in the food import sector and major supermarket chains had B2B meetings with 30 business representatives from all over the region, as well as the Deputy Regional Governor of Agricultural Economy, Environment, and Energy, Argyris Patakakis. This was the first meeting, and the positive results already recorded create the need to continue similar outreach initiatives that are priorities for the Regional Governor of EMTH, Christodoulos Topsidis, as they significantly contribute to the development of the local economy. The meetings on the first day included product tastings from the participating businesses and their evaluation, while on the second day, B2B meetings between business representatives and producers took place. The program also included a tour and acquaintance with the sights of Kavala.
In a statement, the Deputy Regional Governor of Kavala, Theodoros Markopoulos, summarized the results of the two-day meetings, emphasizing that “Outreach is a priority for the administration of Christodoulos Topsidis, and we are planning many initiatives to maximize our exports. The B2B meetings with executives from the Swedish food market bring the businesses of EMTH, with their high-quality products, closer to the countries of Northern Europe, so that consumers can get to know them and seek them on supermarket shelves. This initiative, funded by the EMTH region, had positive results and will therefore continue to support the export character of our businesses.”
